Sue

I concur with pretty much all that you've said here, and wanted to add a couple of thoughts:
I've long maintained that one reason that we like (or dislike) certain songs has more to do with the memories tied to them than to the music itself.
I've had several profound personal experiences with a lyric in a song providing an "a-ha" moment, and thus a turning point in my life.
Music therapy is often used with seniors, Alzheimer's patients and others with memory issues. This is because lyrics are stored in the analytic side of the brain, while the melodies are stored in the creative. Words + music = stronger corpus collossum connection. Proof: if you can't remember the alphabet, what do you do? Oh, yeah - you SING it!
